According to Wikipedia “Patronage” is the "support, encouragement, privilege and often financial aid given by a person or an organization. It can also refer to the right of bestowing offices or church benefices, the business given by a regular customer, and the guardianship of saints."

The “Waste Management University” – that is the School of Environmental and Waste Management of the Universidad Central de Nicaragua International Programs Division – offers Patronage opportunities to waste management federations, companies, NGO´s, Boards and individual professionals.

The patronage system does not ask for financial support or assistance, rather than supporting, encouraging and promoting the values, vision, mission and programmes of the “ Waste Management University ” by a patron.

The patronage includes a mutual weblink from the patron to the UCN School of Environmental and Waste Management websites and vice-versa, and offers the patron the opportunity of demonstrating support for higher education in the area of environmentally sound and commercially reasonable management of wastes. It further offers the opportunity to a patron to conduct organisation-specific trainings and studies with the School of Environmental and Waste Management, e.g. a corporate training programme with UCN earning the students an award by UCN (MBA in Executive Waste Management, MSc in Waste Management, MSc in Environmental Management).

Patrons can, therefore, synergize their corporate or institutional professional and management trainings with higher education offers in the given study area and enable their employees to earn their university degrees via blended corporate education and university distance-learning.
